Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a noninvasive skin resurfacing procedure used to correct minor imperfections on the surface of the skin leaving a smoother, younger looking appearance overall, and stimulating collagen growth. Treatments are relatively quick, with little to no downtime. The skin will be cleansed prior to the procedure, followed by a soothing mask, moisturizer, serum or sunblock according to your skin type and condition.

Contra-indications
• Roaccutane use in the last 6 months
• Severe cystic acne
• Recent sunburn
• Very thin, crepey skin

How does my skin look after the treatment?
• Mild to moderate redness and sensitivity (similar to a sunburn) lasting 12 to 48 hours
• Skin feels dry and tight
• Some darkened areas of skin may occur (this is skin preparing to shed)
• Varying amounts of flaking can occur approximately 3 days after your treatment
• After the skin has shed it has a healthy glow and feels softer and smoother

Potential complications (intense/deep microdermabrasion treatments):
• Crusting (this is the skin in preparation to exfoliate) lasting 2 to 7 days
• Possible superficial bruising lasting 24 to 48 hours
• Infection leading to a scar, if areas of crusting are not cared for correctly
• Hyperpigmentation (darker patches of pigment on the skin) lasting 1 to 12 months

Patient After-Care for Microdermabrasion
• Avoid the use of moisturizing or lotions containing active ingredients such as retinol, glycolic acids, perfumes and colors until your skin is no longer sensitive.
• Your skin will also be a little more sensitive to the sun so keep sun exposure to a minimum. Wear a hat and sunscreen daily; this should be a regular routine for you anyway.
• Apply foundation as you wish
• Varying levels of crusting may develop in some areas. If so, please do not rub or pick the skin as this may lead to a scar.
